(1) Symptoms include nasal congestion, ptosis of one eyelid, miosis , and conjunctional hyperemia.(2) Oral pilocarpine is contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled asthma and in patients in whom miosis is undesirable, such as patients with acute iritis or narrow angle (angle closure) glaucoma.(3) A stimulant action on the parasympathetic portion of the oculomotor nucleus (third cranial nerve) is responsible for pupillary miosis .(4) Although miosis was the most common symptom, severely poisoned patients developed CNS symptoms and cardiomyopathy.(5) After inhalation of vapour, respiratory symptoms, dimming of vision, and miosis are generally the first clinical features to appear.(6) Although topical miotic drops or gel preparations are poorly tolerated by younger patients due to induced myopia and accommodative spasm, pilocarpine Ocuserts are extremely well tolerated.(7) Since the pupillary sphincter is not receiving blood, neither light nor a miotic agent produces miosis.(8) We examined the effects of solutions containing miotic agents such as carbachol and/or acetylcholine on corneal endothelial pumping activity.(9) Its pharmacology accounts for its analgesic and antitussive properties, along with adverse effects such as respiratory depression, decreased bowel motility, miotic pupils, nausea and hypotension.(10) Carbachol a topical miotic agent has not been widely used in India.
