(1) The base of the octagonal lantern is adorned with female heads, an inner rope-twist molding, and an outer lambrequin fringe.(2) Certainly the vocabulary of ornament - the lambrequin canopies at the top, scale pattern surface decoration, and elaborate plumed heads - are features common to Kent's designs for Houghton.
