(1) This gland, also termed the hypophysis cerebri, lies in a bony cavity, the sella turcica, so called because it was thought to resemble a Turkish saddle.(2) In any event, they lose contact with the hypophysis .(3) The intercavernous sinuses are small and they cross the median line at the front and back of the hypophysis .(4) As an example, the beta cell of the anterior lobe of the hypophysis secretes adrenocorticotropic hormone.(5) The internal carotid artery supplies blood to the middle ear, brain, hypophysis , orbit, and choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle.(6) The hypophyseal fossa is filled with sediment.(7) These neurons project axons to the median eminence where they secrete CRH into the hypophysial portal blood.(8) Gametogenesis appeared to be unaffected by hypophysectomy suggesting that the hagfish gonad was independent of hypophysial gonadotropic control.(9) There were also anastomoses with the superior hypophyseal artery.(10) An embryonic remnant, it opens in the hypophyseal fossa, traversing the sphenoid body.
